What’s up? #5

We keep tuning people, birds and flowers (photo by Ana Dinis at the Outlab Tuning People Birds and Flowers at the CORDÃO project in Braga).

Echoes

In May

DBW25 took us to Lisbon, to LAMCI-LEC at NOVA FCSH, for another Visita Guiada a DBW25. At the Fábrica Centro de Ciência Viva de Aveiro, DBW25 was an important part of an “Encontro com o Cientista”, regarding the exhibition A Viagem do Pianoscópio, which remains on display there. The Murmúrios das Árvores workshops continued to resonate the Metamorfose in the Parque da Devesa in Vila Nova de Famalicão and the Outlab Tuning People Birds and Flowers took us to the CORDÃO project in Braga. We held the Afinação da Escuta e Musicalidade Comunicativa Workshop at the Conservatório de Música Choral Phydellius in Torres Novas, and LabX Feliz Encontro took us on a journey through the space of free improvisation.

Happening

In June

21 and 22/6/2025

Dooo Ba Wooo

At Casino Fundanense in Fundão, we will present Dooo Ba Wooo (see Highlight). The performances will be recorded on video for the later creation of an artistic object that will follow on from projects carried out in partnership with the municipality, such as One Thousand Birds or Com Palavras Amo.

Outras Viagens

  • The Murmúrios das Árvores workshops will continuei make the Metamorfose resonate in Parque da Devesa in Vila Nova de Famalicão.

Highlight

DBW Constellation

The DBW constellation started as one of the smallest in the CMT Universe. It was formed by just two “bodies”: the performance Dooo Ba Wooo and the CD DBW25. But even then it was, perhaps, already one of the largest, since both artistic experiences result from a comprehensive and open reading of the entire creation of the Companhia de Música Teatral (CMT).

Super-Sonics

Super-Sonics started out as a blog. It later became one of the fascicles in the publication Manual Para a Construção de Jardins Interiores published by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation as part of the Opus Tutti project. It is a collection of protocols for the creation of alternative musical instruments, accompanied by a CD (also available online here) which brings together some compositions that present concrete examples of the sounds and musical ideas that can be created with these resources. The Super-Sonics projects are simple to implement and aim to appeal to the discovery of sound and, from there, promote the creation and reinvention of music. They are ideas that have been tested over the course of several years in projects involving people of all ages and of all musical “creeds”.
