the MURAL in SALIR
some notes
April 15-19, 2024

Day 1
Getting to know the place and the groups

Whispers, exchanged glances. Hugs. Playing, expanding. Squeezing.
Meeting on a carpet. Squeezes. “Door”, “open/close”. What is the purpose of a door? “To leave the house”, “to pass through”.
To cross over.

Touching a wall. Cold? A tunnel. To cross.
Holding hands with someone, face to face.
[A bell was heard. Clicking with the mouth.]
Things we love: “Bread” “Bread and butter” “Heart”
What is the purpose of the heart?
“To breathe”, “To worship”, “To help people”.

Day 2
Two sides. Communicating through the shadow.

Light and shadow. Two sides.
See through the screen. Switch sides, invite someone.
[Pale flowers at the end of spiral tubes; encourage someone to smell the flowers]
Circular drawings in black. Two sides.
See through the paper.

Where did the ideas come from? “From the head”
How do they keep ideas and get them out? “Through the door”, “with the key”, “through the mouth”.
And the singing grew [seagull, no words].

Day 3
Peeking, crossing. Covering, discovering

Two sides. There are holes to peek through, listen to. Appear, disappear.
Blue threads trace paths on the floor.
Some children pass the thread through the canvas, trying to weave and tighten it.
Circular drawings in blue. Overlapping another’s drawing.
Covering? Filling in? Completing?

Fly away.

Day 4

Freedom: flowers write, and need to be watered

Cloud or stones?
Building, rebuilding: together.

Visit the flowers, water them, take in their colors. The paper dances, the brushes swing. Cradle. Amazement.

Return to the stones. Recreate, rebuild freedom.
What is freedom? “To do whatever we want.”
The teacher: “Within the f…”
The children: “…freedom!”
“Within the f…
“…freedom!”

[Amaiô]

Day 5
One by one: everyone
We start in the street. Chalk circles marked on the ground. Jumping, dancing. Exchanging and sharing places.
We enter the space, sit around the canvas, which today appears to be lying down. Free inscriptions with black, red and blue markers. They change colors if they want. Some dive into the canvas. Some strool around, sing and observe everyone’s drawings.
We revisit other moments from this week through the photographs on the blackboard. The importance of living memory.
Sitting on the carpet, they watch the canvas drawing rise up, approach and fly over them.
We sing and fly on, to leave. It’s a farewell. One of the children says “see you tomorrow!”.
