The installation One Thousand Birds at Tabloo, Dessel (BE) opens in late April and can be visited until June 5th. It is the culmination of a process in which children and adults folded origami together. According to Japanese tradition these origami birds are a symbol of peace and happiness: if you fold 1,000 of them, your wish will come true. “Birds” from Portugal; Belgium; Netherlands and England form a flock of 1000 as a symbol of the desire for a better world.
This installation is the result of the project z.Lab – One Thousand Birds, an online immersive training on arts for childhood. z.Lab is part of the Erasmus+ project SenseSquared, a collaboration between Musica Impulse Centre (BE), Companhia de Música Teatral (PT), Marres, House for Contemporary Culture (NL), Sisters Hope (DK), Stavanger University (NO) and Maastricht University (NL).

Throughout several months we developed the online training z.lab One Thousand Birds, from the piece PaPI Opus 8.z. This work uses the Zoom platform and it was one of the creations that allowed us to carrying on flying during the pandemic. Even after the “return to normality” Opus 8.z has continued its journey, reaching several countries and also some “special audiences” such as hospitals.

The One Thousand Birds in Tabloo were born from an endless hand rooted in SenseSquared. Other hands and birds joined in, later, and the murmuration in Tabloo spread throughout the community.
