From Loulé to Ebeltoft (Denmark), passing through Matera (Italy), we have arrived at the conclusion of the training actions of the Project ABC – Artistic Beginnings in Co-Creation, where we gathered artists, producers and other agents from the three companies involved (Companhia de Música Teatral, Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero e a Companhia de Teatro Musical Figaros).

In Loulé, in July 2024, we kicked off the project with another edition of i.Lab – the first with real-time translation. In i.Lab, the focus was on developing artistic practices for early childhood, culminating in a final performance, for babies and caregivers, inspired by the constellation A Liberdade A Passar Por Aqui.

In parallel, we developed and premiered PaPI Opus 10, with Mariana Caldeira Pinto, one of the artists involved in the ABC project.

In Matera, in November 2024, we were welcomed by Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero, at Ecoverticale, a space that hosts artists in residence, exhibitions and cultural events. We immersed ourselves in the immersive experiences of the shows created by L’Albero with the community of Matera, and discussed ways of accessibility and integration of communities in the creation and production of shows. We got to know the space CrescenDO, where we develop participatory and co-creation sessions for babies and mothers.

At the beginning of March, we traveled to Ebeltoft, where the Figaros company welcomed us for the last phase of the project – the “Voices in Co-Creation” training at the inspiring Maltfabrikken. We brought our voices together, not only among artists, but also in contact sessions with the local community.

PaPI Opus 10 flew to Denmark, where it was presented to Danish children, educators and parents in the context of the training.

‘Communication’, ‘trust’ and ‘cooperation’ are echoes of these last few days, where we shared the progress of the experiences developed by each company, revisited the skills acquired during the project and discussed their impact on our artistic practice.

Following on from this project, we will be developing PaPI Opus 11, which will premiere in November at Casa das Artes in Vila Nova de Famalicão.

The ABC Project is funded by EU through the Erasmus + program as a Small Scale Partnership between Music-theatre Company Figaros (Denmark), Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero (Italy) and Companhia de Musica Teatral (Portugal).
