Opening

What’s up? #7

“Imaginary Geography is endless. The Geography of the Earth has its limits, Imaginary Geography does not.” (Alberto Manguel dixit, and his words sound like music).

Echoes

In July

Teatro Narciso Ferreira in Riba d’Ave became home, laboratory, and stage. At the beginning of the month, it hosted the initiative Mil Pássaros em Liberdade (A Thousand Birds in Freedom), allowing PaPI Opus 8.z to travel to hospitals, schools, and other institutions. Later, it became the nest for another creative residency, culminating in a mediation action in the form of an open conversation with the public (Prelude to an Imaginary Sound Cartography). The i.Lab #2025 (Immersive Training in Art for Early Childhood) took us to Loulé, and included, among other activities, a Guided Visit to DBW25. In Loulé, we continue flowering south. PaPI Opus 9 was presented at the Festival i! by D'Orfeu in Águeda, while Feliz Encontro (a Lab X of free improvisation, open to public participation) continued its journey with no fixed destination — this time at the Seminário Maior in Coimbra. Finally, Berço de Melodias – I Festival de Música para a Infância (Cradle of Melodies - 1st Music Festival for Children), in Maia, hosted a training program (BebéPlimPlim, Supersonics, Colos de Música and Mil Pássaros) and art for childhood, with workshops and visits to Inventário dos Frutos (Fruit Inventory), Gamelão de Porcelana e Cristal (Porcelain and Crystal Gamelan) and the presentation of music-theatrical pieces from the Portable Play to Play Cycle (PaPI Opus 7, PaPI Opus 8 and PaPI Opus 10).

Highlight

Cartografia Sonora Imaginária

Cartografia Sonora Imaginária (CSI) came from the Deep Sea, and may one day return there. In Winter, it inhabited a space usually reserved for planets and stars, and that is where it began to germinate. Perhaps it will bear fruit there as well. In Spring and Summer, it began to sprout by the Ria de Aveiro, it grew, and along the way found (ephemeral) answers to the questions posed to it. Over several months, it led us down many paths and introduced us to people and places we had never encountered before — both real and imaginary. In September, just after Autumn begins, it is expected to appear on stage at Casa das Artes in Vila Nova de Famalicão, and soon after at Teatro Narciso Ferreira in Riba d’Ave. As with other constellations, CSI has several “bodies” associated with it — and so, it may appear in different forms, at different times, in different places. We will continue to draw its sketches and “esquizogramas” — a kind of imaginary mapping, yet to be defined.

Sharing

ABC – Artistic Beginnings in Co-Creation

The ABC – Artistic Beginnings in Co-Creation project, supported by the Erasmus+ programme, brought together the expertise of three partners — Companhia de Música Teatral (PT), Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero (IT), and Musicteatret Figaros (DK) — to address a shared concern: the difficulty of recruiting classically trained musicians and opera artists for inclusive community-based projects. The project resulted in a booklet that brings together the voices of the partners and participating artists, offering insights into the processes, learnings, and reflections that emerged throughout the ABC journey.
