Echoes

In May

In May, the Peça-a-Peça Itinerante (Portable Play to Play) tour travelled the country to bring music to many children. Opus 7 travelled to Almancil, bringing with it a garden full of sound-loving flowers, Opus 10 celebrated the freedom to disobey at the Cucu! Festival and Opus 11 brought the sound of the hurdy-gurdy to Palácio Anjos in Algés. In Mafra, the Porcelain and Crystal Gamelan took everyone to Jardim do Cerco. In Italy, at the Teatro Sociale Como, we took part in the Education & Outreach Forum 2026 in a discussion on early childhood projects. In Loulé, we were Marias and Women and took further steps in the new production premiering in September – M de Manifesto. At the end of the month, we presented the conference-performance Cartografia Sonora Imaginária at the 10th Festa do Livro de Serpa.

Being open

(...) it is not about producing or impressing or achieving — it is about being open. Open to listening, to transforming, to understanding. And, in that state of openness, allowing something greater than ourselves to happen.

Maria João Pires — Pianist

(Speech delivered at the ceremony for the conferral of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Évora on 27 May)

One Thousand Birds in Freedom

Highlight image

Since its foundation, CMT has sought to bring high-quality artistic experiences to a wide range of audiences. “One Thousand Birds in Freedom” is a social responsibility initiative that aims to provide free access to high-quality artistic experiences for institutions and children in special care or isolation. It’s in this context that, since 2023, PaPI – Opus 8.z has been touring various national and international institutions. In June, PaPI – Opus 8.z will embark on new journeys as part of One Thousand Birds in Freedom, also opening two sessions to the general public (see Happening).

PaPI – Opus 11

In PaPI – Opus 11, the dialogue unfolds through percussion, movement and the sound of the hurdy-gurdy. The performance (un)folds like an ear listening from within, like a snail, like a spiral that never ends. The word unravels like a map, reminding us that no word is, in fact, the thing it names. It is merely its echo.
