Cartografia Sonora Imaginária (CSI) is an artistic experience that seeks to transport the viewer to a ‘world’ where music and image merge in a discourse of memories, reminiscences, reverberations, speculations, provocations ‘built’ live and in real time, on a stage that is more than that: window, viewpoint, telescope, microphone, resonance camera, scrutinising brush.
The idea of ‘landscape’ is a conceptual starting point, but the proposal is not to replicate or evoke reality, either in terms of sound or imagery. On the contrary, the aim is to create an abstract ‘sonovision’ that wanders between textures, in search of coherent but deeply subjective relationships. A poetic exercise, with ‘feet on the ground and head in the clouds’ or perhaps the other way around. In several of CMT’s previous works (Pianoscópio, Deep Listening Deep Sea(ing), Poemário, O Céu Por Cima de Cá) we revisited the concept of ‘soundscape’ and experimented with paths that led us to an idea of a comprehensive artistic experience, anchored in a notion of music that defies ‘cataloguing’ and refuses to be trapped in ‘genre issues’. CSI is a natural step in this process of artistic research, which, this time, focuses on sound and image, and therefore differs from other works in which movement and staging play decisive roles. The performance Cartografia Sonora Imaginária is organised as a set of autonomous ‘tableaux’ or ‘maps’, each with its own identity, but whose realisation is unique because it is based on what the performers feel, hear and observe during the act of ‘sketching’ these ‘imaginary places’. The mediation action Prelúdio Prelúdio Para Uma Cartografia Sonora Imaginária is an open conversation between the artists and the audience
