Opening

What’s up? #6

“Caracol, caracol, onde vais com tanto sol?”

Echoes

In June

At Parque da Devesa, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, June was a month full of Murmúrios das Árvores. And when that happens, you also hear the singing of birds and the laughter of children. In Évora, we presented the workshop One Thousand Birds at the 32nd EAS Conference & 10th ISME European Regional Conference. In Fundão, Dooo Ba Wooo also brought us to the children—but in a different way. And to many memories. The Casino Fundanense is one of the remarkable places where Com Palavras Amo has passed through, and this time, in the Sala da Concha, Eugénio’s voice was heard in a different way — one we had already made heard in other places (some quite far away), but that needed to be shared in Fundão. Dooo Ba Wooo also allowed us to rediscover other words and many more songs that continue to stir in CMT’s treasure chest, waiting for those who want to learn to play.

Happening

In July

28/7/2025 - 2/8/2025

i.Lab #2025 – Arts For Childhood Immersive Training

At the end of July we will return to Loulé for another edition of the i.Lab. Over the course of a week (28 July to 2 August) we will promote the experience of musical practice situations (voice and movement) and the awareness of the importance of play and the quality of care in childhood. The need to care for the environment, communicative musicality, music as a tool for human development and as a mediator in interaction with babies are ideas that run throughout the entire program. The training culminates with a final presentation of an artistic experience aimed at families with babies.

Other Journeys

  • The Mil Pássaros em Liberdade initiative will take PaPI Opus 8.z to hospitals, schools, and other institutions, broadcasting from Teatro Narciso Ferreira.

  • Feliz Encontro (a free improvisation Laboratory X, open to public participation) continues its wandering journey, this time at the Seminário Maior in Coimbra.
  • PaPIs, the Porcelain and Crystal Gamelan and some of our training proposals make up the programme of Berço de Melodias - I Music Festival for Infancy, in Maia.
  • Visita Guiada a DBW25 will take place in Loulé, as part of the i.Lab programme.
  • Prelúdio Para Uma Cartografia Sonora Imaginária is a mediation action that will close the creative residency taking place at Cineteatro Narciso Ferreira in Riba d’Ave. It will take the form of an open conversation with the artists and the audience, on July 19th at 4:00 PM.

Highlight

Mil Pássaros em Liberdade

In one of the initial versions of the Mil Pássaros project (Lisbon, European Green Capital 2020), we learned that the restrictions caused by the lockdown required new ways of connecting with the people for whom we had imagined our artistic experiences. The impossibility of sharing the “real” space pushed us to explore other ways to continue working on the “tuning of people, birds, and flowers” in the “virtual” space, which, in turn, led to ideas such as Poemário Vivo, Zyg, Zag & Zoom, and PaPi Opus 8.z. The quality and interest of these experiences encouraged us to continue investing in the possibility of maintaining some of these ideas, because there are many situations of isolation and limited access to art experiences that can be overcome this way. The Mil Pássaros em Liberdade initiative, which will take place at the beginning of July, will allow PaPi Opus 8.z to reach hospitalized children and schools and institutions that have expressed interest in receiving our work. This is a social responsibility action framed within the activity plan supported by DGARTES and with the support of Casa Das Artes de Famalicão | Teatro Narciso Ferreira.

Sharing

Flowering South

The book “Flowering South - Caring for children” is the result of regular collaboration between Companhia de Música Teatral and Cineteatro Louletano. It offers a broad overview of CMT’s ideas and initiatives in the field of adult training and provides a more detailed look at the immersive training workshops promoted by Cineteatro Louletano over the past six years, giving voice to their participants and contributors. It is dedicated to Colwyn Trevarthen, a great enthusiast of CMT’s work and a tremendous source of inspiration. CMT continues to flourish in Loulé, sowing seeds so that his ideas reach wider audiences, sharing emotions, concerns, reflections, and moments of wonder.
